Great place to learn about american history thru the lens of the African-american experience. Slightly out of the way but a joy and a wonder once there.

Museums are resource based, the more money you have the more you can do and honestly, no one is venturing out to Wilberforce, Ohio for any reason, let alone to see a museum. The two rooms they had was packed full of art, history and information. I'm not sure how this university museum got the designation of a "National museum." If you have the time, take a detour from Dayton or view it on a college visit but do not plan your vacation around it.

Very peaceful and nice looking on the inside. It is quiet and free for students to attend. I like it here. The only thing I truly wish is for more exhibits and the expansion of the building. Other than that, it is a good mini museum.

For what it is and what it has to work with, it's great. It's a relatively small museum with limited hours. It's located next to two historically black universities in a very small town. The universities make good use of it between the featured exhibits. It's also been used as a venue for weddings and other very important events. If you go there to learn something, you won't be disappointed. There's not a lot of pizzazz and fluff. With more support and cooperation, it could really be amazing. It was a great place to spend a few afternoons as a student. It's a cherished gallery of unique pieces, cleverly presented.

This is a great place to learn real history! I have brought dozens of people here especially from the local area and no one has been disappointed. I'd encourage you to call ahead the museum to see what is on display and confirm hours, they change the displays two or three times a year. I'd recommend planning 45-90 min. for a visit and be prepared to do some reading while there. Especially if you've never looked at African American history, this is a great, close by option. Just minutes from Xenia and Springfield. Also located on the campus of Central State University, an HBCU (one of 2 in the entire state). Come with cultural humility and learn. interesting local history.
