I went here recently for a college visit and it was okay until it came time for lunch we went to the cafe and got food and I decided to get ice cream because other people were getting it and when I was getting one of the student staff members came up to me talking about the ice cream machine is broken and I said aw my bad and then the woman proceeds to tell me that "reading is fundamental " I just wanted to to why she feels as though she knew me enough to tell me that first of all I have a learning disability and secondly other people were getting it so now I know I will not be applying here cause that was very rude
Great school indeed. I had a great time at CSU; loved every moment.
HBCU's are the foundations to African American's. One important fact that remains to this day HBCU's DO NOT LET OUT BABYCATS. If you graduate from an HBCU you are the tops of your class. I graduated from Central State in the class of 1998 and my degree is still paying dividends as a Systems Engineer / Software Engineer. My degree is in Computer Programming Science. The computer science department is one of the few where a student learns six 6 computer languages and takes 12 math classes. Most other schools offer two 2 computer science course and fifteen math courses.
This school's staff needs further training and the school needs help period!! They are completely unorganized. The employees are unprofessional when it comes to organization and getting back to people about financial aid and fixing issues within the dorms. The doctor's office is also unprofessional and hard to talk to as well. Dr Matthews is rude at times and talks to students as if they are ignorant. She only apologizes after you correct her behavior. If you have a concern and address your issue to Dr. Matthews in a calm and professional manner, she takes what you are saying personal instead of properly investigating the issue. She has also told a student that they can take their health insurance card and go somewhere else. This was because the student said they've received inadequate treatment twice and wanted a second opinion from her (Dr Matthews) since she is a doctor, instead of the nurse that gave them the run around more than once. Plus, Dr Matthews has expressed that Central State does not have the funds to test students for certain health concerns. Even Wilberforce University had better medical testing than this school, they had pap smears and lab testing (hbcu across the street from central) The college president barely shows her face on this campus either, I have yet to have seen her or met her. I also had to fight for six months to have my items replaced that was taken out of dorm without my consent. I also had to fight to get the other half of my scholarship because the paperwork and rules were not clearly addressed. I had to constantly fight to get help and to have things change and I am just a transfer student. Only been here for six months. Some people have good experiences here and some do not. I am an older student and has worked with companies and businesses beforehand. So when it comes to professionalism and furthering assisting people with concerns, I've noticed that Central State needs a lot of improving. I've even witnessed during the month of January gun violence on this campus. I recommend traveling further south to another HBCU for a better black college experience.
There is nothing like Central State University. Best HBCU around!!! For God For Central For State!!!!
